In the days of old, when a man really loved his wife, he would openly show it by giving to this wife a double portion in comparison to what he gave to the rest of the family members. So, when Isaiah & Zechariah spoke the promise of double being restored to God’s people, this was understood as the reality of God’s deep love for His people. This is an expression of God’s side of the relationship with us, Him choosing us. Job had this experience, receiving twice as much of what he had before it was destroyed.
Paul encountered this love. While violently opposing the church, he heard God telling him that to carry on as he was, would not be good for him. The reality of experiencing God’s love was so valuable to Paul, his prayer was that every believer would experience this. God’s love is the constant, the always with you that nobody, nothing can take from you – no disaster, no difficulty, no enmity, no failure, no lack – nothing can become a wedge between you and the love God has for you.
This love is cultivated while being vulnerable & honest with God, speaking your heart to Him, listening to what He has to say. His voice is an internal Voice within. Our challenge is to choose to believe that it’s God we’re hearing & therefore to act accordingly. This is an investment that lasts forever.
