Tithing is an agreement and a commitment between God and his children. God is so committed to tithing, that He proclaims, “Test me on this!” Tithing is designed to benefit the giver! 🙂
Here are three ways that tithing changes our perspective, and builds our faith!
ONE ~ God Rebukes The Devourer ~ (so that you don’t have to)
True tithers have full confidence in the provision of God. They are confident that God blesses their activities and their income. Their speech is not fearful but rather hopeful. They don’t slander nor do try to find things to blame their own setbacks on. They are at rest knowing that God will always supply their needs and restore that which has been stolen.
And I will rebuke the devourer [insects and plagues] for your sakes and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground, neither shall your vine drop its fruit before the time in the field, says the Lord of hosts.
TWO ~ Tithing Becomes Our Testimony
A tither will always have a good story to tell. God says, “you will not have enough room to store the blessings.” Tithing becomes part of that testimony. The testimony we all have is one of how God has brought us out of captivity and into our promise – tithing is an act of remembrance of this testimony.
Malachi 3:16 Then those who feared the Lord talked often one to another; and the Lord listened and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him of those who reverenced and worshipfully feared the Lord and who thought on His name.
Not only do we have a good story to tell, but we become the very good story itself! God is also paying a tithe, and He pays that tithe through us.
James 1:18 says We are a kind of first fruits of all the creatures! That means God has invested in us! This is a two way relationship – He gives us as a first fruit, and we give back our first fruit in relationship. Tithers understand that of the
increase of God’s goodness there is no end!
THREE ~ Tithing Gives Us Power to Discern
Once we have tasted God’s goodness, we know that which is not from God tastes bad. Just like sheep that hear the shepherds voice, we only respond to what comes from God. It is better to discern from a place of testimony or victory. Those who have tasted success and victory and have overcome many challenges are no longer afraid of the things they have overcome. Discernment is a gift that comes with maturity and experience (Hebrews 5:14) and it is not given to the powerless.
Then shall you return and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him who serves God and him who does not serve Him.
God can restore and redeem us from any situation. Be blessed as you explore and work out your relationship with God. We are praying for God’s provision and blessing in our homes!
